Custom Stained GlassOrdering your Custom Stained GlassWe have installed quite a few custom made Stained Glass Windows in the homes and churches of South Central Ky. We usually begin with a visit to your home or site to measure your window opening and see exactly how it will be installed and get a feeling for the space. Many homeowners have very specific ideas as to what they want and that's great. But a large number of our clients have no idea what they want or what would look good. That's why we like to see the space whenever possible and get an idea of what you're hoping to present. Focal point or accent? The first question we would ask is if the window will be a focal point - something that "knocks 'em dead" when folks see it the way a great painting might - or is it an elegant accent that blends with and enhaces a room? We can help you make these choices if you're unsure. Opalescent or Cathedral?Basically, there are 2 types of glass manufactured for the Stained Glass industry, opalescent and cathedral. Opalescent Glass is glass that you can't see through but will transmit light. This quality makes it an excellent choice for a bathroom window Cathedral Glass is much more transparent. The amount of the diffusion of the light can vary from completely obscure - where you can only perceive light and shadow, to glass that looks like clear glass with color. And while a lot of cathedral glass will appear to have no particular color without light coming through it, like when viewed from outside during the day, opalescent glass will show a color with or without transmitted light. Sometimes a Combination of Cathedral and Opalescent can be very effective. PricingThere are so many variables in the cost of a custom made Stained Glass window that it's impossible to give an exact price before the pattern is drawn up and the glass has been chosen. But the ballpark figure that we use is $75 /sq.ft. (use the Cost Calculator at the bottom of this page.) We also charge a design fee of $25. This is a non-refundable deposit which will be applied to the cost of the piece. But keep in mind that as the square footage increases, the price per square foot decreases. It would cost much less per square foot for a church with many windows than for a single Stained Glass window in a kitchen for example. The final cost of the piece will be determined by:
